BAKU, AZE (September 22, 2019) – The 2019 Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships wrapped up in Baku, AZE on Sunday with the apparatus finals in the group competition, and Russia capturing their eighth gold medal of these Championships with a win for their 3 hoops + 2 sets of clubs routine. Japan broke Russia’s strangle hold on the top of the podium, taking gold in the 5 balls competition.
The Canadian group recorded scores of 22.400 for their 5 balls routine, and a new personal best score of 23.050 for their 3 hoops + 2 sets of clubs routine for a total score of 45.450. Russia took gold in the all-around group competition with a total score of 58.700. Japan captured silver with a total score of 58.200, while Bulgaria took the bronze with a total score of 58.000.
The Canadian group featuring Carmel Kallemaa, Diana Noskova, Vanessa Panov, Carmen Whelan, and Alexandra Zilyuk, all of Toronto, finished their competition on Friday after finishing 20th overall in the qualifying rounds of the all-around – a move up of three in the overall country rankings from last year’s World Championships.

MOSCOW, RUS (July 20, 2019) – The inaugural Junior World Championships in Rhythmic Gymnastics wrapped up for Canada on Saturday, with the team, consisting of individual athletes Michel Vivier of Vaughn, ON, and Elizabeth Savchenko of Montreal, QC, and the group from Glimmer Athletic in Toronto, ON, finishing 22nd overall. The group also finished 21st out of 33 teams in the group all-around competition. There was no individual all-around competition.

MONTERREY, MEX (June 15, 2019) – Team Canada rhythmic gymnasts had a very successful competition at the 2019 Junior Pan American Championships in Monterrey, MEX over the weekend, coming home with seven medals total, including a silver medal in the team competition on Friday.
Michel Vivier of Vaughn, ON will be coming home with the most hardware after dominating the individual apparatus finals on Saturday to win three gold and one silver medal to add to her team silver. She also finished fourth in the individual all-around (AA) competition on Friday.
“After yesterday I pulled myself together and managed to achieve my goals for this competition,” said Vivier who was recently crowned the 2019 Canadian junior AA champion, and is headed to the Junior World Championships in July. “I am happy with my routines today and of course the end result of three gold and one silver. I plan to work hard cleaning up my execution particularly with ribbon (as I get ready for the Junior World Championships).”
Vivier took gold with her rope, ball, and clubs routines that all scored over 17 points.
In the individual AA competition on Friday, it was Elizabeth Savchenko of Montreal, QC who laid down four solid routines to walk away with the bronze medal. Technically she and Vivier finished with the same score total of 61.450 but Savchenko had the higher execution scores which broke the tie and gave her the podium result.
“This is my first competition representing Canada at such an important competition,” said Savchenko who finished second in the AA competition at the recent Canadian Championships behind Vivier. “I was very honoured to receive the bronze medal and to share the silver with my teammates in the team event! This competition has been a great experience so far.”
The team was composed of Viver, Savchenko, Tatiana Cocsanova of Montreal, and Suzanna Shahbazian, also of Montreal.
In the group competition, the athletes from Glimmer Athletic Club finished fourth overall in the AA competition, but came back on Saturday to take the bronze medal with their five ribbons routine. They finished fifth with their hoops routine. The group is composed of Katerina Berestetsky, Marta Kovalevych, Alissa Levytskyy, Anna Lunga, Bobbi Rimrott, and Sianna Tsakiridis.
